Incoming MESSage: Your Toeless Socks from Mango Are Ready To Be Tried and Tested
because who has $500 to give Miu Miu for theirs?
The infamous Miu Miu toeless socks. Adored from afar, yet held so close to my heart. But not to worry—there’s a solution to everything. Inspired by my coworkers who found affordable versions at Mango, I know I’m getting a solid return on my “investment.” The way I’m styling these? Definitely different from everyone else.
Day 1
I knew exactly what I was wearing the night before.
It’s safe to say the spring weather has finally broken, and we’re no longer in danger of anything below 50°. At least, I hope so.
I’ll be honest—there wasn’t much of a thought process behind my outfit. I just kind of saw it. I also already knew what shoes I wanted to wear: my new Thom Browne metallic gold pointy heels. (Don’t worry, guys—heel height, as always, is under 3 inches.)
So fast forward to this morning—outfit revealed. I’m in a blue button-up shirt with my red-and-white striped long-sleeve tee layered over it.
As for bottoms, I’m wearing my black nylon skirt with a harem-like silhouette at the bottom.
For outfit manipulation, I cinch the waist of the button-up and long-sleeve shirt with a scrunchie, letting just a little bit of the blue shirt peek out underneath the red-and-white tee.
This allows me to enjoy the proportion and volume of my nylon skirt by creating something “slimmer” at the top.
Of course, I’m wearing my gold shoes — but for added interest, I bring in the star of the week: my toeless grey socks.
They add the perfect touch of interest and depth to my outfit.
With the weather averaging 70° today, I grab a light jacket — a vintage Coach slim jacket with a satin finish and a silk strip at the bottom.
All done, all set.
I feel amazing and I’m looking forward to strutting the streets of NYC.
See you tomorrow.
Day 2
Wow, I’ve really been on a roll this week.
I planned what I was wearing the night before once again!
Still on a roll with the warm weather, I decided to wear a slip skirt.
It’s a midi brown skirt with a striking blue lace trim at the bottom.
It’s not fully summer yet, so I don’t want to wear a tank top or sleeveless top — but it’s also not too cold today, so I don’t want to wear anything heavier at the top either.
I just need something right in the middle for a good balance.
Cue: scanning my clothes vault. Ding! A track jacket.
This track jacket is cool because it has so many interesting technical designs. And by technical designs, I mean functional features — it has zippers on both arms, so I can take my arms out if I get too hot.
I grab it, and I do like the color — it’s a blue-grey, so it works perfectly.
I like this so far, and immediately I want to wear something quirky and unexpected for my shoe choice, so my mind thinks of some furry flip-flop sandals.
They’re red in color, and they match perfectly with the grey toeless socks that I, once again, do not hesitate to wear.
For texture and character, I grab my brown sparkly clutch bag and — et voilà — body, mind, and soul are ready to head out the door.
Day 3
Once again—I’m very proud of myself.
And you can probably guess why… I planned my outfit the night before.
All week I’ve been waiting for an exciting package to come in, and today I am very happy to be wearing the item that arrived.
For more context, I’ve been obsessing over these Miu Miu sandals. Of course, I can’t afford them right now, but I’ve been on a mission to figure out ways to channel the vibe of the shoes — especially for the warmer months.
So, I found a pair of black Prada Sport T-strap sandals on The RealReal. I think the heel height is about 1 inch and some change, which makes it perfect for emulating practicality, functionality, and, of course, my inner diva.
The weather is humid and 70 degrees today, so I’m wearing my grey mesh skirt. Because it’s such a “precious” skirt, I want to shake things up and do the opposite — so I throw on a black zip-up hoodie.
And of course, to add more interest, the grey toeless socks make their appearance once again.
I think slowly but surely I am beginning to have an idea of what I want my warm weather uniform to look like — and the Prada sandals are definitely a great start.
Side note: there’s a particular look I’ve been obsessing over from Miu Miu S/S 2023 (look 6)— especially the shoes. I feel like the toeless socks with these Prada sandals really channel that look. And hey, I was able to do it because the shoes weren’t even up to a quarter of the price of those leather thong sandals.
Outgoing MESSage: A New Dimension of Your Personal Style Is Waiting For You!
Dimension, facet, area — whatever you want to call it! This week proves something I’ve always known, but putting it into action makes me realize that no matter what I admire, whether it’s a low or high price point, I can always find creative solutions. And of course, my finances play a role in allowing me to channel what inspires me.
As MESSy as these solutions may be, that’s the beauty of personal style. Who knows, maybe someday one of these hacks could become another source of income… wink wink (Creative Director Davina in the making).
See you next week!
